Incident Reports
Updated May 12 @ 9:30 PM

Context:

This post acts as a living FAQ to supplement the incident report we released on May 10th, 2026. We’ll add new questions here as they arise if they haven’t been answered by any of our previous statements to make them visible to everyone

Who at Kink Center is privy to Incident information like intake and reports?

Only Kink Center Directors have access to that information. Event Staff, Event Coordinators, and other Volunteers have no access or involvement in these processes

Who is making decisions for Kink Center?

Answer: Kink Center Directors are working together in Directors-only channels to share information, vote on decisions, and collaborate on responses

What is being done about the Event Staff member who is in a personal relationship with leaders of Sanctum events?

Our volunteer team is allowed to have relationships with whomever they want. Our Conflict of Interest policy for Event Staff specifically obligates Event Staff to announce any conflicts if they are at an event and someone arrives that compromises their ability to be an authority. The individual in question announced their relationship clearly to us. Their participation as Event Staff at events hosted by Sanctum was limited to account for this. We trust them as an individual to make choices appropriate for their well-being and Kink Center’s. They are not privy to the incident processing, nor have any input in our choices. Thus, their relationships do not influence our choices. We will not punish people for their relationships, nor attribute to them the wrongdoings of their partners. If a Director were in the same position, they would be excused from this incident process entirely

Why did Kink Center (on FetLife) “superlove” a relationship update status from one of the original reporters, which was dated Apr 7

Raven did this and did so accidentally from the Kink Center account instead of his personal account. Raven is friends with the other person in the status post and genuinely loves when his friends have new relationship posts. This “superlove” will be undone from Kink Center’s account after this message is posted online

What is  Kink Center’s relationship to Sanctum during this process?

When we notified Sanctum of the hiatus, we provided them an official Kink Center email address to use to send us questions or comments. As of May 11 at 8:40 p.m., they have not sent us anything. We will reach out soon to sort out financial details – Per our contract, the prepaid events will be refunded. We have no plans to ask for anything other than that

What percent of income did Sanctum represent for Kink Center?

Our pricing structure is public information. Saturdays cost $450. Sanctum operated 2 parties a month (on average), and their monthly invoices for Kink Center reservations was around $1,200. This represents about ⅓ of the income necessary to fund the venue. The different between our monthly income and the monthly rent is paid by Raven

What was the reasoning behind allowing the May 9th Sanctum party to proceed as planned?

On the day of the party, Kink Center directors discussed canceling the party and there was disagreement about the best course of action. Through a majority vote, the party was allowed to continue for the following reasons:

  1. We wished to gather statements from all parties, and we did not have that information yet

  2. We did not wish to be punitive in our actions towards Sanctum before concluding an investigation

  3. We did not wish to exacerbate the situation

  4. We (erroneously) believed that we had agreement from the reporters with this course of action

  5. We identified the party as an opportunity to observe how Sanctum leaders would behave after the report became public, and we believed that having multiple Kink Center directors present was sufficient to maintain the safety of the guests

The reasoning by which we came to this decision is imperfect. We are still gathering information now, even after pausing Sanctum events. That pause is not and was not punitive. It was made for community safety and for ease of investigation. And, while we may have chosen a path that did not exacerbate the situation for Sanctum and allowed us to observe them, this course of action created worse outcomes for the community. We recognize that proceeding with this party as planned was a mistake; please see our post about our timeline for more details and disclosures

What were the arguments against allowing the May 9th Sanctum party to proceed as planned?

The reasons for cancelling the party that were articulated prior to the May 9th party were:

  1. We did not take action before the report went public out of respect for the reporters’ timeline and safety, but once public we could act, especially given the seriousness of the reports we received

  2. Based on an assessment of Malcolm’s emotional state via messages in a private discord server and in direct messages, there was safety risk to community

  3. Making the choice to pause before any further events is what individuals on the director team would do in their capacity as event hosts in such a situation

  4. If we are trying to be unbiased during an investigation, making the decision to cancel the party or at minimum ask Malcolm not to attend would both protect the community and allow Sanctum to respond appropriately to the reports of harm

Since the decision to proceed with the May 9th party, our conversations as Kink Center directors have continued and we’ve discussed additional reasons why the party should not have been allowed. These include:

  1. The critique of the reasoning presented in the question above, about allowing the party to proceed

  2. The idea that by allowing the party to proceed, we prioritized the emotional convenience of those who were accused of harm over community safety

  3. Once we had a statement, a course of action, and buy-in from the reporters, we should have acted more swiftly

Knowing better now does not excuse failing to raise these points earlier, but it does allow us to reflect on our mistakes and improve our protocol for the future

Kink Center originally outlined a timeline with final decisions by June 6th. What does the timeline look like now?

We are still receiving new reports and additional information, and we want our final message to honor as much of our community’s truth as possible. We will have a final conclusion and communicate our decisions by May 16th, and we hope to include as much information as we can at that time
